I am principally writer of fiction and narrative non-fiction and I also write for radio. All my writing is inspired first and foremost by place. This includes my publication for 2024, Doubling Back - Paths trodden in memory.

Writing Landscape: Taking Note, Making Notes,a collection of essays published April 2023.

The Other Side of Stone, a novella reflecting lives connected to a Perthshire woollen mill over 200 years was published in hardback by Taproot Press in March 2021 and due to popular demand now reprinted in paperback. Read more and order with no postage to pay here.

It seems to be important I engage bodily with my writing, so getting mud on my boots, sleeping high up in the hills, or being slapped by salt water can all be part of my process. As advice for writers goes, Susan Sontag's works for me: 'Love words, agonise over sentences and pay attention to the world.' I enjoy helping others to do that in their own writing through my teaching workshops and courses and by mentoring and editing.

If you are interested in my writing and/or my workshops, I recommend signing up for my newsletter at this link for up-to-date news, special offers, audio stories and occasional free books.

A special hardback edition of novel 'Call of the Undertow' is available after it went out of print with Freight Books. See 'MY BOOKS' for more information and purchase.

If, like me, you like to combine travel and writing.... Here are some of the places where I run creative writing workshops, (as well as more recently offering online courses). See 'NEWS' page for what's coming up.
